The 150th Belmont Stakes

Witnessing Triple Crown History

When most people think about the Belmont Stakes, they think about the iconic victory achieved by Secretariat. At the 150th Belmont stakes the prestigious Triple Crown trophy hung in the balance by none other than Secretariat’s 4th Great-Grandson — Justify. I was able to witness Justify win the Kentucky Derby this year. Being able to attend the Kentucky Derby was a “Bucket List” experience for me that you can read more about here. I totally feel in love with the history, fashion, and electric atmosphere of attending the races so I have mapped out every prestigious race in the world with hopes of someday attending. (Royal Ascot in London anyone??)

The Belmont is located in Elmont, New York which is about 45 minutes outside of the city. The trip was such a last minute decision, a friend and I literally packed the car and drove just to witness this historical event. It was all worth it to be in the sold out crowd cheering and watching the famous chestnut colt cross the finish line on the 45 year anniversary of his great grandfather’s record breaking run. I feel truly lucky to have been present for these two amazing races. I also have a nice little stash of collectables to remember them by!

Belmont Fashion

The fashion for the Belmont Stakes is traditionally monochromatic styles in either black or white. (Think New Yorker version of Kentucky Derby wear…) The Belmont is also sponsored by Longines, a Swiss watch company, and they hold a fashion contest each year. The winner of the Longines fashion contest goes home with a diamond watch in a beautiful cherry wood box! When planning my outfit I had zero plans of entering the fashion contest. Mostly because after hiking my rear-end off at the Kentucky Oaks trying to just find the carpet, I assumed the contest was invite only for individuals who were much more influential than I! haha However, I happened onto the Blue carpet at the Belmont and entered the contest…and I was actually a finalist to win!

Here is a photo from the contest>
The judges for the contest were mostly fashion magazine contributors so I felt really honored by my placement!

I also had the chance to finally meet Leckie Roberts. She won the fashion contest last year and she is one of my favorite influencers! Her blog and Instagram is called “West Village Wasp”. If you love bright colors and NYC you will love following her too.

I have received lots of your kind compliments on my outfit via social media so first of all THANK YOU! This is one of my favorite looks because it is really versatile and surprisingly affordable. As I said before, I didn’t have any plans on being in the fashion contest so I just wanted a look that was appropriate for the races yet transitional enough to wear again. I don’t believe in paying a lot for trendy accessories so most of mine are from Amazon. I will link the outfit details below.
